The Anderson Dox (Dry Oilseed EXtruder) is a high-shear mechanical pretreatment system designed to improve the efficiency and performance of downstream oil extraction. By combining cooking, drying, and shearing in a single unit, the Dox conditions low-oil content seeds to release more oil during pressing while reducing residual oil in meal to as low as 5–6%.

The extruder generates frictional heat to rupture oil-bearing cell walls, deactivate anti-nutritional enzymes like urease and trypsin inhibitors, and flash-dry excess moisture without the need for external steam. Used as a front-end system before mechanical expellers, the Dox doubles pressing capacity, extends wear part life, and significantly boosts processing efficiency.

Material is fed into the Dox Extruder where it passes through a high-shear environment created by rotating screws. The intense mechanical action generates frictional heat that cooks the seed, evaporates moisture, and breaks down oil cell structures. A manually or hydraulically operated choke at the discharge end creates back pressure to maintain optimal shear conditions. The heat treatment also deactivates anti-nutritional factors, improving meal value. The extruded material exits in a cooked, porous form, ready for pressing with significantly enhanced oil recovery.
